FINAL FOUR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FINAL FOUR SET AT MANITOBA

LANGLEY, British Columbia
– The Canada West women’s volleyball quarter finals have concluded and the road to the CIS championship will go through Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Joining the host No. 3 and second place University of Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg, to earn the right to advance to  Edmonton and the CIS Championship, are the No. 1 and first place University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, the No. 4 and third place Trinity Western University Spartans and the No. 5 and fourth place University of Regina Cougars.

The Canada West semi-finals on Friday night will feature the Thunderbirds against the Cougars and the Bisons against the Spartans. The winners will advance to the gold medal match and earn a spot at the CIS Championship. The losers will play in the bronze medal match with the winner advancing to the CIS Championship. Match times are at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. both nights at the University of Manitoba.

The Spartans and Bisons played twice earlier this season in Winnipeg on Nov. 21 and 22. Manitoba swept the two matches defeating Trinity Western 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 16-14) on Friday night and 3-2 (13-25, 26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14) on Saturday night.

The Thunderbirds and Cougars matched up at Regina on Jan. 8 and 9. UBC took both defeating Regina 3-2 (17-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-20, 15-12) on Friday and 3-1 (25-19, 14-25, 25-18, 28-26) on Saturday night.

Normally the first place Canada West team would host to the Final Four, but due to Olympics the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds will have to relinquish the host position to the highest placed team outside of the province of British Columbia, which is the University of Manitoba.
