WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL KICKS OFF SEASON AGAINST DEFENDING CHAMPS
LANGLEY, British Columbia - There’s nothing quite like diving into a polar bear swim head first.
The TWU women’s volleyball team launches the 2010-11 Canada West regular season on the road against UBC(October 29-30) – the three-time defending national champions and holders of a 40-game undefeated streak against CIS opposition – so, in reality, the Spartans start to the year isn't much different than an ocean plunge on New Year’s Day. In both cases, you better be prepared.
But while the Spartans will no doubt be in tough in their opening weekend matchup, if last season’s opening weekend proved anything, TWU will be ready. Last year, the Spartans gave UBC all they could handle in their Saturday match as TWU lost by the slimmest of margins in a five-set marathon.
The Spartans home-opener will be played the second weekend of the season (November 5-6) as TWU will host Thompson Rivers at the Langley Events Centre.
Trinity Western will get a crack at redemption early on as they play Regina – the team that beat them in the Canada West bronze medal game and stopped the Spartans one win short of the CIS Championship tournament – November 12-13.
The Spartans will prepare for the 2010-11 season by competing in a variety of exhibition contests as well as hosting the West Coast Classic (November 22-24).
