WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SIGNS CALGARIAN LIBERO

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western University women’s volleyball coach Ryan Hofer is delighted to announce the signing of libero Courtney Davis (Calgary, Alta.) out of the Dinos women’s volleyball club.

“We are excited to have Courtney join the Spartan Family,” Hofer said. “There is no doubt in our minds that she is one of the best in her age group in the country. She possesses the skills we are looking for in this position, she is an outstanding passer and fantastic defender, she takes charge of the backcourt and she’s a fierce competitor.  We are looking forward to the impact she is going to make in our program.”

The 5-foot-7 graduate of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School comes to the Langley-based campus after an illustrious career at both the high school and club level.

In high school, Davis’ team won the 2010 provincial championship, won a silver medal at the 2009 provincial championship and, along the way, won three consecutive league championships (2008, 2009 and 2010). Her high school team also earned a gold medal at the 2010 Western Canadian Independent Schools Tournament where Davis was named Tournament MVP and was also given the Best Server Award.

Playing with the Dinos women’s volleyball club, Davis’ won the Alberta provincial championship with both the 18U and 17U teams and most recently her 18U Dinos finished in a tie for fifth at the 2011 National Championships in Abbotsford, B.C.

Prior to joining the Dinos, Davis played for the Elite Volleyball Club (now the High Performance Volleyball Club) for three years, winning a provincial championship with the 15U team and a provincial silver medal with the 16U team, where she was named to the tournament all-star team.

“I’m excited to contribute to this close-knit, successful, and extremely well-coached volleyball team, as well as obtain a highly respected degree from a university that shares my values and beliefs,” said Davis, who plans to study Psychology at Trinity Western.

Off the court, Davis has participated in a number of missions trips, two to Mexico and one to Columbia, as well as being a First Class Honours Student from Grades 7 through 12.
