FISU GAMES: WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL TO PLAY HONG KONG FOR 11TH PLACE

SHENZHEN, China (CIS) –
Team Canada’s women’s volleyball team will play for 11th place against Hong Kong Saturday at 3:00 a.m. PDT after the Canadians fell to Italy 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19) Friday night.

The loss to Italy came just one day after Canada beat Sweden 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23) in the placement quarter-finals.

After not seeing the floor in the first two games of the competition, Trinity Western middle Alicia Perrin has now played in nine of the last 12 sets for Canada. Perrin started for the first time in the tournament against France in the final game of pool play and played all four sets, earning 13 points. She continued her fine play against Sweden, as she once again started all four sets and put up 13 points. Against Italy, Perrin played in just one set but didn’t register a point.

Canada went 1-2 in pool play with a win against France and losses to Chinese Taipei and Poland.

About the Summer Universiade
The Summer Universiade is an international multi-sport event that takes place every two years and is second only to the Olympic Games in the number of participating athletes and countries. Close to 9,000 athletes from over 150 countries will compete in Shenzhen. The Universiade is open to competitors who are at least 17 and less than 28 years of age as of January 1 in the year of the Games. Participants must be full-time students at a post-secondary institution (university, college, CEGEP) or have graduated from a post-secondary institution in the year preceding the event.
