Dinos Sweep Spartans

Calgary, Alberta –
The number one ranked University of Calgary Dinos completed a weekend sweep of the Trinity Western University Spartans with a 3-0 win Saturday evening. Calgary won the match 25-13, 28-26, 25-13 to improve their record 13-3 while TWU drops to 3-11.

Calgary cruised to convincing wins in the first and third sets but the Spartans gave the Dinos all they could handle in set two.

Calgary won 25-13 in set one but set two was a different script. The Spartans held a 16-15 lead at the technical timeout and the clubs were tied at 20-20 and 22-22. Trinity held a 25-24 lead but Calgary tied the set at 25-25. Calgary went ahead 26-25 but the Spartans pulled even again before Calgary eventually won the next two points winning the set 28-26.

The Dinos were not pushed in set three as Amanda Moppett took over with some outstanding serves that constantly kept the Spartans off balance.

Moppett was outstanding for Calgary with nine kills, three service aces, and 15 digs, while Janelle Findlay a solid match with 11 kills and 11 digs for the Dinos who host the University of Manitoba Bisons next weekend.

Canadian National team member Lies Verhoeff was the Spartans best player with 10 kills, three digs and a service ace. She also led the Spartans at the net who had ten team blocks as compared to eight for Calgary.

Calgary had a kill percentage of 15% as compared to just two percent for the Spartans.
