The Summer Thus Far

Howdy,

Thanks very much for stopping by. I do hope your summer is going swimmingly. I start work tomorrow. For the past – six or seven weeks now – I have been casually working away at my own leisure from the relaxation of my own home. I have read, written, thought, prayed, played, and so on and so forth. I highly recommend it! But that’s all coming to a close now. I’m not disappointed though, no sore feelings about going off to work. Now I get to go from well-being to well-doing. For the next nine weeks I will be an assistant camp manager at a ranch (Our Lady Queen Of Peace Ranch) for kids who are mentally, physically, behaviorally or financially challenged. I used to be a counselor there, but now I’ve moved up the camp ladder. One unfortunate rung below me are four of my best mates from TWU who are driving out from Vancouver and America to join me there! Very exciting.

Not to go into too much detail, but here are a few brief highlights from the intervening period between my last blog and this one:

1)      COLDPLAY!!! – My parents took me to see them on the 17th of June. We were row 18 on the floor, and what a show it was. If you ever get the chance to see them live, then get tickets! Sell your organs if you have to!

2)      The TWU golf tournament – We had a great golf tournament a little while ago. Good weather and a good course made for equally good times (minus a bad score). I had the privilege of being a student speaker at the event, but on top of that, had the privilege of eating some fine salmon for dinner….yum yum.

3)      Reading - I have been doing a lot of reading. Three authors I’ve enjoyed making an acquaintance with this summer have been: Aristotle, Hemingway and Kierkegaard. A new second hand book store has arrived in my town, which is everything I ever wanted and everything I didn’t need. I love books, I buy books, I read books, I just look at them – no that’s a lie – I buy more and more of them. And a second hand book store is the worst (and yet the best) for book buying. It’s cheaper so you make the mistake of buying more of them, but even then it’s too late. Just entering the book store is flirting with temptation – no, that’s wrong – just looking at the book store is temptation enough. I have sinned much this summer… I’ve bought more second hand books then I have fingers and toes and dollars to pay for them. I have more leafs in my books then there are on the trees! Well that’s not right, but I’ve acquired probably 30 or more books in 5 weeks!

Well that’s it for now.

Pax Baby.
