Long Term Disability Plan (LTD)
In the event that an employee's disability extends beyond the University's short term plan, staff members are entitled to apply for a benefit of 60% of earnings to a maximum of $4,000 monthly based on a contract provisions with the insurer.
Included in this benefit are comprehensive drug benefits, supplementary hospital benefits, supplementary health care benefits and unlimited out-of-province, out-of-country emergency benefits. Claim forms may be obtained at the Human Resources Office; however you are encouraged to register on line at www.gwl.ca for a range of services and personalized claim forms. This benefit is optional if employees have alternate coverage of equal or greater value with a spousal plan.
Dental coverage will be provided at 80% for preventative and diagnostic treatment, 70% for basic treatment and 50% for major treatment. Annual limitations as well as life time limitations apply to this plan. Claims may be submitted electronically by your practitioner. This benefit is optional if employees have alternate coverage of equal or greater value with a spousal plan.
Employees who are working regularly a minimum of 30 hrs/wk are enrolled in the Group Retirement Savings Plan. Following a qualification period, plan members will contribute a minimum of 4% of monthly salary and the University will match the contribution with 4%. Members may make additional contributions above the required 4% if they desire; however, the University matches a maximum of 4%. All funds are submitted to the plan carrier and the member is responsible for the investment direction from a range of mutual and interest bearing funds. All members are vested immediately upon enrollment and have the added option of establishing a spousal account. Payment of benefits from the plan varies depending on the leaving circumstances (resignation, retirement or death) and will be discussed fully prior to the funds being released. Members understand the fact that the amount of funds available upon leaving the University depends on the performance of the mutual and interest bearing funds chosen by their member for investment. Continued membership after termination is not optional.
Plan members who wish to do so, may request a break in contributions of up to twelve months. This hiatus of payments may be requested only once during employment at TWU and must be discussed with and approved by Human Resources.
