The New Calvin B. Hanson Chapel

SanctuaryAs the founders of TWU surveyed the property that was to become the campus, they took off their shoes and prayed, declaring that they were on holy ground – that God had a special work to do on that land. Today, TWU has grown to a full arts, sciences, and professional studies university, offering 42 undergraduate and 16 graduate decrees, but there remains a deep need for a permanent reminder of the University’s rich heritage and the spiritual passion that it was founded on in 1962.

LobbyThe new Calvin B. Hanson Chapel will fulfill this need, providing a place of prayer and worship and a landmark at the heart of the campus to reflect the University’s unchanging Christ-centred essence. Located to the north of the Stanley Nelson Centre and just east of the Reimer Student Centre Atrium, the Chapel will be at the crossroads of daily student life.

LoungeThe Chapel will be first and foremost a sacred space, a building devoted to prayer, music, and other means of worship. It will serve as a home for Alumni Relations and as a constant reminder to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors that twu is a Christ-centred community with a divine calling – to be a means of God’s grace, compassion, and hope to the world.
