Educational Vitality

We envision Trinity Western University to be a People organized for excellence into communities of learning, concentrating on areas of competence and character that are critical to the well being of others and committed to knowledge and understanding that will address the world’s deepest needs and most profound opportunities.

Therefore, we see the need and opportunity for the University to:

  1. PROVIDE CHRIST-CENTRED, TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES
    1. Continue to promote educational experiences that
      • Develop critical thinking, tolerance for ambiguity, and self-understanding
      • Promote spiritual formation and humanitarianism
      • Foster competent, engaged citizens with an appreciation for God’s creation
    2. Facilitate teacher/scholars and scholar/practitioners to realign institutional and educational practices
    3. Encourage partnerships between all educational programs (academics, student life and athletics)
  2. DESIGN ADAPTIVE AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
    1. Deliver unmatched quality of education through increasingly innovative, adaptive and experiential programs consistent with the province of BC’s Vision 2020 education plan
      • Laurentian Leadership Centre, Ottawa
      • Salt Spring Island Environmental Studies Program
      • Creation Stewardship Laboratory, Langley
    2. Develop strategies to extend a Christian liberal arts experience within the context of professional, continuing, and life-long educational programs
    3. Facilitate new learner-centred programs for life-long learning, such as Corporate Training Centres and Adult Degree-Completion Programs
  3. INCREASE GLOBALITY
    1. Bring the world to TWU and take TWU into the world through extension campus sites and distance learning
    2. Attract and engage students and faculty from the global marketplace to facilitate cross-cultural opportunities and awareness
    3. Cultivate global citizens who lead through service, responsive to global and local needs and opportunities
  4. ESTABLISH WORLD-RENOWNED LEARNING AND RESEARCH CENTRES
    1. Explore the marketplaces related to schools, giving serious consideration to developing Schools of Media, Culture, and the Arts; Engineering, Law, and Nursing
    2. Form forward-thinking educational partnerships to extend the reach of TWU programs and influence
    3. Develop Centres of Excellence to broaden external recognition and advance research, adding to the existing and renowned Dead Sea Scrolls Institute and Centre for Septuagint Studies; could include Centres of:
      • Asian Studies; Biotechnical Research; Citizenship and Global Studies; Gender Studies; Higher Education Research and Development; Interdisciplinary Studies; International Sport; Leadership Development; NGO Management; Research on Health and Wellness; Spiritual Formation
    4. Establish colleges related to humanities and natural sciences, professional studies, and distance and experiential education

    1. Building on TWU’s current capacities, develop multi-modal and demographically relevant graduate programs for adult and professional populations with a goal for one-third of the student population to be enrolled in graduate programs
    2. Enhance collaboration between the School of Graduate Studies and Graduate School of Theological Studies (ACTS)
