Resource Type: The ATLA Religion Database is the premier index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion. More than 600 journals are indexed annually. The database includes more than 1.3 million bibliographic records for journal articles, more than 200,000 essay citations from 15,300 multi-author works, and more than 400,000 book review citations. This database begins in 1949 although indexing for some journal titles extend back into the nineteenth century. Links are provided to 100,000 full text articles in ATLASerials, from more than fifty journals selected by religion scholars in the United States. Additionally, Premier Package customers will have instant access to full text for more than 250 journals indexed in ATLA Religion Database.
   
Description: ATLA Religion Database (American Theological Library Association) provides information on topics such as biblical studies, world religions, church history, and religion in social issues. ATLA contains more than 1.3 million bibliographic records covering the research literature of religion in 35 languages. It includes more than 430,000 article citations, from more than 1,500 journals (600 currently indexed), more than 200,000 essay citations from 15,300 multi-author works, and more than 400,000 book review citations. Most coverage spans from 1949 to the present while ambitious retrospective indexing is underway taking nine significant titles back to the nineteenth century. This database is an essential resource for researchers and students in theology as well as in social sciences, history and humanities. It is produced by the American Theological Library Association.

Printing Full Text from ATLA:

When you see a link on a citation that reads:

Full Text From ATLA: Click here for electronic resource, you have a full text format that takes special handling: 

  1. Since ATLA full text is scanned material, it cannot be searched or e-mailed but can only be read and printed.  If you want to access the electronic text on your own computer, you will need to access ATLA through the library web page, using your TWU e-mail account user name and password (instructions on the library home page).  “Linked Full Text” can be e-mailed and is easily printed.

  2. Printing ATLA full text is somewhat complicated:
    1. Identify first on what pages your article was located in the original print document (e.g., 25-43).

    2. Open the full text by clicking on the link.

    3. Click on the “Print” link on the yellow bar near the top of the screen.

    4. Enter the page numbers of the article in the appropriate boxes

    5. Click on “Redisplay.”  (Normally you will not need to adjust the size of the document).  You will see small pages forming vertically down your screen.

    6. Use the print button at the top of your browser (or the print link under “File”) to print the document.
