Write-N-Cite

Write-N-Cite is a utility that allows Microsoft Word (Windows and Mac) users to run an abbreviated version of RefWorks in their word processor. With Write-N-Cite, you can cite references in a manuscript with the click of a button. The utility installs an Add-in to your Word toolbar (Windows users only). It runs as a separate application on Macs.

Downloading Write-N-Cite

  • To use Write-N-Cite with RefWorks you must download a small utility program to your computer.
  • For the Windows version, click here to go to the download page.
  • For the Mac version, click here to go to the download page.

Starting Write-N-Cite

  • After you have installed the Write-N-Cite program, open it from within Word by clicking the toolbar icon or by selecting it from the Tools drop down menu.  You can also launch the program from the Write-N-Cite icon on your desktop or by clicking on the Start menu and selecting RefWorks from All Programs.  If you launch the program from the desktop icon or the Start menu, it automatically opens a copy of Word for you.

RefGrab-It

  • RefGrab-It works with your browser to capture bibliographic information from web pages giving you the option to import that data into your RefWorks account.
  • Available for:

Troubleshooting:

Blank screens

If you get a blank screen instead of having RefWorks pop up when you download citations in an EBSCO or other database, the problem is likely that you have a pop-up blocker operating on your computer. A lot of computers are equipped with pop up blockers (e.g., Google toolbar), and the browser sees the opening RefWorks window as a popup and prevents it from opening. The workaround is simple – Hold the CTRL key down while you click on Save to save citations to RefWorks.  This tells the popup blocker that a popup is being allowed.

Login problems

Always log in through the TWU Library home page. You will need first to authenticate as a TWU user, with your usual user name/password to get into any of our databases.  You should then see "Trinity Western University" clearly in the top box.  If not, you will need to log in with your group code:
