Arby Susi

Arby Susi

Year: 3rd

Major: Psychology

Hometown: New Westminster

How Arby came to TWU: Honestly, through the grace of God.

You'll find Arby enjoying: Singing, going on roadtrips, playing my guitar, shopping, eating.

What Arby wishes she knew before coming to TWU: Nothing really: I just enjoy the learning process!

Arby's most difficult aspect of transitioning to TWU: Finding enough money every semester to pay for tuition.

Arby's favourite part of being a TWU student: Being a part of the community and having many opportunities to serve. I also deeply appreciate the aspect of faith that is purposefully brought into every classroom; for me, it gives my education much more meaning.

Arby's favourite TWU class: I can't pick just one! It's a tie between "Introduction to Theology" and "Social Psychology."

Random Fact: I broke my pinky while I was dribbling a basketball (not even playing the game). It still looks broken.

Rachelle

Rachelle Briscoe

Year: 4th

Major: B.HK (Kinesiology), Strength & Conditioning and Pre-Med

Hometown:  Kelowna, BC

How Rachelle came to TWU: What a story this is. At camp one summer I was significantly impacted by my counsellor who was at the time a student at Trinity. Her love for Jesus Christ totally shined through her in the way that she treated others, and ever since that week I was determined to go to Trinity myself and be just like her one day. However, at the end of high school I made the decision to stay home and attend UBC-Okanagan for guaranteed playing time on the women's basketball team and overall affordability. At this point it appeared like I had given up on my dream to attend Trinity Western. But during my 2nd year at UBC-O, I began feeling a strong calling to re-connect with the Trinity coach to begin the transfer process. And before I knew it, I was attending my first class as a Trinity Western student athlete. What a journey the Lord has taken me on!

What Rachelle wishes she knew before coming to TWU: That you NEED to buy yourself a pair of rainboots. Period.

Rachelle's most difficult aspect of transitioning to TWU: Literally, as a transfer student, it was hard for me to go from being so well established at UBC-O and knowing so many people, to knowing next to no one at Trinity and having to start all over again. As a transfer player on the women's basketball team, I had a crash course in humility and putting the needs of others before my own.

Rachelles' favourite part of being a TWU student: I love walking onto campus and being filled with a sense of purpose. Trinity classes are unlike any other class I've been to. The professors are not only world-renowned in their respective fields of study, but each and every one of them cares deeply for the spiritual development of their students. It is truly amazing for me to be at a place where I am consistently challenged spiritually, academically and physicallly. I can't think of a better place for one to explore their faith and grow into the person they were created to be.

Rachelle's favourite TWU class: Intro to New Testament (Rels 102) and Principles of Strength & Conditioning (HKIN 303).

Random fact: My younger brother is my best friend. And I often eat an apple or orange before I go to bed.

Thomas

Thomas Nelson

Year: 3rd

Major: Theatre

Hometown: Galiano Island

How Thomas decided to come to TWU: Making a long story short, I found out about it in Grade 12 through a friend of mine, went to a preview weekend in October and was shown then and there that TWU was where God wanted me. It was the only school that I ended up applying for.

You'll find Thomas enjoying: Hanging out with friends, reading, and walking.

What Thomas wishes he knew before coming to TWU: Majors are very flexible (most people change their, at least once), living on campus is a fantastic choice, you will change a lot during university.

Thomas' most difficult aspect of transitioning to TWU: I would say that adjusting to a different approach to academics and fewer but larger assignments was the most difficult for me academically.

Thomas' favourite part of being a TWU student: Being able to be friends with professors.

Thomas' favourite TWU class: "Introduction to Political Thinking" and "Introduction to Theatre"

Random Fact: My favourite vegetables are brussel sprouts and broccoli.

Becca

Becca Webb

Year: Graduated in April

Major: International Studies--Development and Cultural Change

Hometown: Spokane, WA

How Becca decided to come to TWU: I applied last minute to TWU as a safety. I ended up coming to check it out, and my parents really loved it and asked me to give it a try. It turns out they were right!

You'll find Becca enjoying: Music and photography and drinking coffee!

What Becca wishes she knew before coming to TWU: The importance of being present!

Becca's most difficult aspect of transitioning to TWU: Being away from everyone I knew.

Becca's favourite part of being a TWU student: Being challenged on all levels and the fammily I have found here!

Becca's favourite TWU classes: Tricky! "Issues in Social Justice," probably.

Random fact: I can lick my elbow!

Mary

Mary Berger

Year: Graduated in April

Major:  Music

Hometown: Enumclaw, Washington

You'll find Mary enjoying: I love hiking, baseball, and volleyball. I read a lot too, but mostly I like to spend my spare time doing things with groups of friends.

What Mary wishes she knew before coming to TWU:  I wish I had known I would need rain boots for my first year living in NorthWest.

Mary's most difficult aspect of transitioning to TWU: Learning to find a good balance between social time, extra-curricular involvement, and my studies.

Mary's favourite part of being a TWU student: Becoming so close to the other students in my program that we started referring to each other as family. Also getting to know so many of my professors on a personal level has been amazing and the knowledge that they care about me and want me to succeed even after I've finished their classes (or even my degree) is so encouraging.

Mary's favourite TWU class: I can't pick just one! Music 425 (20th cent. music) and Physics 215 (Astronomy) are right up there on my list though.

Random fact: I sang at the Olympic Torch Relay, I used to milk dairy goats, and I think ketchup is disgusting.
