In my Masters' studies at ACTS Seminaries I've been doing extensive thinking about Worship, Leadership Development, and the role of corporate worship in the life of an academic community like Trinity Western University.
The following documents detail some of the research I've been doing. Feel free to learn from them in any way you'd like. If you use them in other contexts (teaching, quotes, etc.) please do me the courtesy of giving credit. Some of these documents are without table of contents... email me if you'd like those as well. Thanks!
Tim McCarthyAssociate Director of Student Ministries for Chapel
I wrote my final Masters project on the role of Chapel in Christian higher education. This paper weaves together educational philosophy, a theology of the kingdom of God and the mission of the Church, and a theology of worship together to argue that Chapel acts as an essential unifying practice, a well, a garden, and a climax in the formation of missional conviction. If you're not faint at heart, you can have a look at the paper here. A more condensed version will be aimed for publication in the near future.
I visited Calvin College, Northpark University, and Trinity International University, to be a fly on the wall as they ran their chapel programs. I had particular interest in their leadership training programs. If you'd like to know what I discovered, read on here. (Warning: It is a 40 page document!)
If you're interested in the kinds of initiatives I'm taking in terms of training students in worship leadership, see my draft training program here.
Diversity is one of the realities that affects student development, as well as worship. For thoughts on how student development might move toward embracing diversity, read on here.
I have written a book review of Debra Dean Murphy's book, Teaching That Transforms, for Partners, a journal of the Canadian Association of Christians in Student Development. Read it here.
If you are a student, a student development professional, a worship leader, or all of the above, I'd love to here from you! You're welcome to read them and respond to me here.
