On Wednesday, June 6th Trinity Western University’s 18th Annual WIRELESSWAVE Golf Tournament broke the three million dollar mark in total earnings over the history of the University’s annual event. The tournament, which hosted Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald as its guest speaker, raised over $660,000 for student-athlete scholarships and scholarship endowments.

For both the six-time Pro Bowler Fitzgerald and the golfers, it was a memorable day. “This was an experience I won’t forget for a long time,” said Fitzgerald. “I’ve been truly moved by the people of this university and how passionate [they] are and how committed [they] are to the cause. On every single hole, I was met by young men and women who were engaging, intelligent, passionate about their craft and well-rounded. And as these students continue to move forward, I know the lives [they] touch will be greatly enhanced by [their] hard work and dedication.”

Larry Fitzgerald speaking at the eventHosted at Westwood Plateau in Coquitlam, B.C., the tournament broke the half million dollar mark for the third consecutive year as the event took another major step forward in terms of money raised, surpassing $600,000 for the first time. Last year the tournament grossed over $570,000. Trinity Western has increased the amount it has raised for student scholarships every year since the tournament's inception in 1994. Since 1998, the event has seen an increase in the dollars raised from $30,000 to this year’s $660,000. During its 18-year run, the tournament has netted over $3,035,000.

“It has been an unbelievable team effort and a blessing to see this tournament grow over the last 18 years. We are truly thankful for the many corporate sponsors and donors that make this continued growth a reality. It is a real privilege to be a part of something that directly impacts students’ lives and helps develop our leaders of tomorrow,” said Steve Scholz,TWU tournament advisor. “We simply could not have done it without the help of our Title Sponsor WIRELESSWAVE; Dave Hartman, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, WIRELESSWAVE Group, Retail Canada; Glentel; and many of our major sponsors such as Samsung, Bell, Rogers, LG Electronics, RIM Blackberry, Gentec, Virgin Mobile, Sony Mobile, Fido, Nokia and Adidas.”

In addition to a round of golf, each golfer went home with more than his or her value for the day including fabulous food and service from Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club and plenty of contest prizes, registration gifts and hole host gifts supplied by the many generous sponsors. A particular highlight was that each golfer received a 40” LED TV donated by Samsung Canada and a pair of Adidas Tour 360 ATV golf shoes donated by Gentec.

The tournament featured a silent auction that included trips to Africa, Ireland, and London; a pair of autographed and framed jerseys from Daniel and Henrik Sedin; signed memorabilia from Steve Nash, Cory Schneider, Shea Weber, and Trevor Linden; and numerous electronic items.
