These rankings come from the Conservation Data Centre and are based solely on the organism’s status within British Columbia. A simplified view of this ranking system includes Red-listed and Blue-listed species.

Red-listedincludes species which have been been legally designated as Endangered or Threatened under the Wildlife Act, are extirpated, or are candidates for such designation
Blue-listedincludes species not immediately threatened, but of special concern because of characteristics that make them particularly sensitive to human activities or natural events
Exoticincludes species that have moved beyond their natural range as a result of human activity; also known as introduced or non-native species
Unknownconservation status of these species is unknown

These rankings come from the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) and are broken down into the following categories:

Special Concern (SC)A wildlife species that may become a threatened or an endangered species because of a combination of biological characteristics and identified threats
Data Deficient (DD)A wildlife species for which there is inadequate information to make a direct, or indirect, assessment of its risk of extinction
