Grade 7 Workshops

Registration for May 2012 occurred on October 19th. There is currently a wait list for interested classes.

Chemistry Workshop Dates For May 2012:

The 2 hour workshops will take place from 9:15-11:15, 12:15-2:15, on April 30-May 4, May 7-11, May 14-18.

The chemistry workshop supports the Grade 7 curriculum and includes topics such as:

1. Pure Substances and Mixtures:
   Students use chromatography to separate the components of mixtures.
2. Particle Nature of Matter:
   Students build molecules using model kits and computers.
3. Properties of Matter:
   Students measure and compare properties of matter such as density and solubility.
4. Changes in Matter:
   Students observe various chemical reactions and perform a small-scale reaction themselves.
5. Acids and Bases:
   Students encounter and measure the pH of various acids and bases from everyday life.
