LLC Sponsored Day Trips

Depending on the semester, the LLC arranges for one day or half day trips outside Ottawa. The following are some trips often taken:

  • Montreal: Only a two hour bus ride from Ottawa, Montreal is perfect for a day visit. In 12 hours, you can visit St. Joseph's Oratory, the downtown shopping district on St. Catherines Street and tour the old city where the Notre Dame Cathedral, quaint shops and restaurants are located.
  • Kingston/Thousand Islands: Tour downtown Kingston, the historic Bellevue House or Fort Henry, and end the day with a boat tour of the famous Thousand Islands.
  • Gatineau/Kingsmere: In the fall, Gatineau and Kingsmere are alive with colour. A day tour can include a short hike on a popular trail, a visit to the town of Wakefield, or tea at the Mackenzie King Estate.
  • Diefenbunker and Sugar Shack: Visit Canada's Cold War Museum in Carp, ON and finish off the day with a pancake dinner at one of Lanark County's famous sugar bushes.

Because of Ottawa's central location, you can also take a weekend to visit some major Canadian and U.S. cities: Toronto (five hours by bus), Quebec City (four hours by bus), or New York and Boston (accessible by train, car or plane).

"I'm a student from BC.  That means I've got a severe case of western alienation syndrome, I'm trapped in class all day, I hang out exclusively with people my own age, and I have no experience with the real world.  Thus, I view the LLC as some kind of alternate universe, where I encounter Eastern Canada, meet people who know what they're doing, hold down an office job and pretend that I'm mature and intelligent enough to deal with it.  By the end of my semester, I expect that I will have metamorphosed into an entirely new human being.  Or at least learned some cool new things."
