
Mary Polak, Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, also MLA for Langley, toured the LLC and spoke to the class at the LLC on Wednesday, February 1. She talked about her experience of running for office (her "Path to Power") and what it was like to be a Cabinet Minister.

On Tuesday, November 28, Premier Christy Clark visited the Laurentian Leadership Centre. Premier Clark toured the facility and addressed the students. She challenged them to make a difference in their communities. See the press release.
Meet and Greet with Minister of Defence
Defence Minister Peter MacKay addressed LLC students on leadership on Tuesday, November 28.
LLC Director, Janet Epp Buckingham, wrote an article putting the proposed federal Office of Religious Freedom in national and international context for a Cardus publication, Policy in Public. See Putting the Office of Religious Freedom in Context.
Business Travel Study
The LLC hosted a "Law in Ottawa" travel study for BUSI students for the 4th year in a row. It was a bit different as Parliament was not sitting. Students attended sessions with Treasury Board, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, FINTRAC and the Competition Bureau. We had a special dinner at the Chateau Laurier and a final dinner cruise in the Thousand Islands. The parents of one student hosted the class for lunch at the Rideau Club.
The LLC hosted a panel discussion on "Faith and Public Policy" on March 28. The panel was moderated by Mike Hogeterp, of the Christian Reformed Centre for Public Dialogue, and included MP John McKay, Julia Beazley (policy analyst on poverty with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada) and Wes McLeod (Manning Centre's Faith/Political Interface).

One of Canada's newest Senators, Don Meredith, spoke at the LLC about his experience in community leadership in Toronto on Monday, March 21. Senator Meredith led community action in the black community in Toronto after a wave of violence. He encouraged students to take action in their own communities, to be part of a solution rather than just blaming people for the problems and to foster partnership amongst people of all races and faiths in service to the community.
On Monday, March 14, the LLC screened “Hope for the Sold,” a documentary about human trafficking in Canada and the world. A panel of speakers, including Ottawa Police Service’s Constable Carl DeJong, Natasha Burton of International Justice Mission, and Joel Oosterman, Chief of Staff for anti-trafficking advocate and MP, Joy Smith, added their insights and fielded questions.
We had a wonderful Christmas reception December 16 with home baked Christmas cookies and cider at the LLC.
Mark Warawa, MP for Langley, President Raymond and Dr. Buckingham co-hosted a reception for MPs and TWU alumni on October 26, 5:30-7:30 in the Commonwealth Room, Centre Block. We had a great turnout despite the voting bells ringing.
In the tradition of previous gender cafes held at the main TWU campus, the LLC hosted our very own gender cafe with guest lecturer Andrea Mrozek speaking and leading discussion on the timely topic of men and marriage on Tuesday, October 5th. It was a lively lecture and discussion on the "The Status of Men."
The LLC co-hosted a series of workshops on the environment. The first was a panel discussion on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at St. Paul University on "Climate Change and the World's Poor." The second was a leadership session on Saturday, Oct. 2. Dr. Buckingham gave a short talk on spiritual resources on the environment at the Saturday session.
