Entrepreniurial approach brought to MBA studies
Mark Lee, DBA, is serious about integrity in business. The director of TWU’s new Master of Business Administration program (MBA) sees TWU’s School of Business as a community where integrity and character are espoused as the heart of good business education and practice.
“A business school should be a place where people are trained in the advanced theory and practice of business. TWU provides this but takes it to another level by also asking the deeper ethical and personal questions that every business person will face.”
Lee wants students to grow in how they do business but also in an understanding of why they do business. “Are your business practices making the world a better place? We teach that the highest goal of business is to serve others.”
TWU’s MBA program employs the greatest number of Christian Ph.D. business professors in Canada, faculty who bring students into a conversation about ethical business based on relationship and a Christian worldview. Small class sizes ensure opportunity for dialogue and networking that integrate the expertise of faculty and the experience of mature business professionals.
Because TWU educates the whole person, graduates tend to be innovative and entrepreneurial, a distinctive strength of one of the degree’s three specializations. The Management of the Growing Enterprise specialization combines the entrepreneurial qualities of originality, confidence, and a desire to positively change the world with the business expertise necessary to grow a business from the ground up.
The Non-Profit and Charitable Organization Management specialization is the first of its kind in Canada. It was created for non-profit managers who want advanced business training to complement their passion and service-driven careers.
Both of these specializations combine online and in-class learning for a 22-month degree that is ideal for those in the midst of careers. Says Lee, “MBA programs tend to either be full-time residence programs or 100 per cent online. Our MBA meets the needs of working professionals by combining face-to-face courses twice a year in spring and summer and online courses year round.” This combination means that TWU MBA students will be constantly applying what they are learning to their jobs.
The International Business specialization, beginning January 2009, is delivered in an on-campus-only format to accommodate those who want to complete an International mba in 14 months. The program offers flexible start dates with one or two courses per month.
