Measuring Sticks

Businesses gauge their success by comparing outcomes to goals. As I’ve applied that same standard to higher education, I have seen the evidence that TWU is accomplishing its goal of developing “godly Christian leaders.” Our alumni are leading by taking risks, accepting challenges, and making an impact in the communities where they live.

In this issue, you’ll read about a group of alumni starting a global water conservation movement in Vancouver, and about a memorial cycling ride to support a Rwandan school. And the exciting part is that these stories are just the tip of the iceberg: we have alumni in 81 countries around the globe who are using their skills and passion to meet the world’s deepest needs.

What motivates you? What inspires you? What are you passionate about, and how have you created an outlet for that passion? I get excited when I hear stories about alumni who are answering these questions with their lives. Although many of these stories have yet to be told, it is an honour and a pleasure to accompany these friends along the way, receiving updates, praying for them, and networking for them. One of my favourite things about being the director of Alumni Relations is connecting alumni who have similar interests. Seeing the benefits of a collaborative effort is rewarding. Not only does it fulfill TWU’s mission statement, but it also develops trust and builds strong relationships, which is at the heart of the Alumni Relations Department.

Christ taught us about the importance of relationships — we have powerful potential when we work together. I am excited to be at TWU at this time; I am excited about our alumni. Please continue to encourage each other, pray for each other, and — just as we are told in James — to rejoice in our position with Christ!

May we continue to be blessed,
