Miracles Still Happen
I recently had the pleasure of being involved in a small miracle. A parent of an alumnus asked me to find a student who needed a computer, but had financial challenges. The parent had a brand new laptop that he wanted to give away.
I didn’t think the task would be too difficult. However, I was shocked to find out that almost every student already had a laptop. When I asked a few students if they knew anyone at TWU who didn’t have a laptop, they laughed and said, “Everyone has a laptop.” I cringed at how old I have become; in my fourth year, I remember only one person at TWU who had a laptop.
I began to pray that the Lord would lead me to a person who was in need. I asked some people in Financial Aid and Student Life to keep their eyes and ears open.
Days and weeks went by. Eventually I was given the name of a first-year student from a single parent home, who was financially challenged and about to take out a loan for a computer. When the student heard that someone wanted to give him a brand new laptop, wanting nothing in return, he started shaking. A huge smile appeared on his face, and he kept repeating, “Thank you, thank you, thank you…” It was incredible.
I walked away from that experience with two thoughts: Our God is awesome! I asked Him, in faith, to provide a person for this situation, and He did. And secondly, I realized I want to do more of this “delivering blessings” business. The joy I felt in simply being the liaison in this encounter was amazing. It was a privilege to see the joy, experience the love, and partake in the spirit of the gift.
My prayer is that these types of gifts would bless more students at TWU. In upcoming magazine issues, I would like to report a hundred more stories like this–stories about how our alumni continue to bless the students of TWU. Please join with me in praying for our students. They are the leaders of tomorrow, and the alumni of tomorrow. Let’s show them today what kind of love they can share tomorrow.
Blessings,
