TWU Students and Coca-Cola at the Olympics
Fifteen TWU Business and Human Kinetics students worked as product merchandisers for Coke at the 2010 Olympic Games — experiencing a part of the Games that tickets could not provide.
Human Kinetics professor Daryl Page, who helped set up this student opportunity with Coke, believes it was a great chance for students to build connections, get valuable work experience, and practically apply their education. “There are only a limited number of work opportunities at the Olympics,” says Page, “so it’s a great honour to be chosen.”
One of the students, Business major Remy Morgan, says, “It’s amazing to see how every area of business we learn about in courses — logistics, marketing, human resources — are all tied together.”
For another of the students, Human Kinetics major Lauren O’Reilly, the experience stokes her own Olympic aspirations. A member of both the Spartans volleyball team and the A roster of Canada’s women’s volleyball team, she hopes to be part of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
