A Locus of Expertise
New partnership to advance the study of Anabaptist-Mennonite theology
Trinity Western and the Mennonite Faith and Learning Society (MFLS) have partnered to establish a new endowed Chair in Anabaptist-Mennonite Theological Studies.
“This is a major step for Trinity Western University,” says President Jonathan S. Raymond, Ph.D. “Our hope is that one day this chair will grow into a centre for Mennonite studies.”
Given the significant Mennonite presence in the Fraser Valley, this initiative is an important way for the Mennonite community to engage in theological dialogue with other Christian traditions.
“I see a situation in which many people, far beyond the groups represented by the signatories, will benefit greatly,” says MFLS president and former TWU professor, John H. Redekop, Ph.D.
the chair will facilitate a deeper understanding of anabaptist-mennonite theological heritage and contemporary issues.
The endowed chair would fund the research of a twu professor, facilitating a deeper understanding of Anabaptist-Mennonite theological heritage, contemporary issues, and differences between Anabaptist-Mennonite theology and other evangelical theologies. For Mennonite churches, the chair will be an important ally—another locus of expertise in Anabaptist-Mennonite theology.
