Larry Perkins is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (B.A. [Honours], M.Ed.), Oxford University (B.A., M.A. [Oxon]), and the University of Toronto Ph.D. program in Septuagint Studies (1980), and has published various Septuagint-related articles. His doctoral dissertation, completed under the direction of Prof. John Wevers, dealt with the translation technique of the Syro-Hexapla of Deuteronomy with a view to providing greater precision in the use of this source for establishing the Old Greek text of Deuteronomy.
Dr. Perkins is Professor of Biblical Studies at ACTS, where he teaches primarily Greek exegesis with a focus on New Testament issues. A member of the international team of scholars that is preparing the A New English Translation of the Septuagint, he has completed translating the book of Exodus. Currently he is writing a commentary on the Septuagint of Exodus. Recent publications include articles on the use of Exodus in Mark’s Gospel and the interpretation of the clause “Let the reader understand” in Mark 13:14. He is working on materials related to Deuteronomy for the Hexapla Project and on the use of Jeremiah in Mark's Gospel. Recent papers include“Reshaping the Story – Tracing The Translator’s Hermeneutical Fingerprint in Exodus 19,”presented in The Greek Bible section at the 2005 Society of Biblical Literature meetings.
