This unique program provides three field placements in which students apply their skills in the helping professions. The program is technically a certificate (equivalent to 30 semester hours) embedded in a psychology or social sciences major. Students focus on core sociology and psychology courses. A human services professional is trained to work with individuals and communities experiencing emotional, cognitive or social challenges. This program prepares students for careers as psychological aids, social work assistants, caseworkers, youth workers and community workers. Fields open to a human service graduate include mental health, wellness and substance abuse treatment. Graduates work in settings such as faith-based organizations, social services, group homes and government agencies.
- Streams offered include: general human services, child and family development, criminal justice, faith-based social services, global issues
- Students choose practicums in which they work with a variety of people, including at-risk youth, seniors, the homeless and the mentally ill
