lin•guis•tics (BA)

TWU’s linguistics department, in conjunction with the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL), offers courses ranging from the technical aspects of phonetics and grammar to sociological issues such as language acquisition and community literacy. Studies include the recognition and pronunciation of non-English speech sounds, alphabet formation, description of grammars and systems of meaning and beliefs. Courses are based on proven techniques drawn from decades of research in hundreds of languages. Students of linguistics find career opportunities in translation, cross-cultural communication, international development, literary programs and teaching English as a second language.
