chem•is•try (BSc)

A major in chemistry prepares students for careers in research, industry, the health sciences and environmental planning. The TWU chemistry degree provides ample opportunity for preparation in theory and practice. Following the introduction of general principles and laboratory skills, courses focus on analytical, organic, physical and inorganic chemistry, as well as biochemistry. Independent projects allow fourth-year students to explore their areas of interest. Through the various lab courses offered, students will receive hands-on experience with a range of modern instruments including GC-MS, UV/Vis and Atomic Absorption, FT-IR and FT-NMR spectrometry. In addition, the department has advanced "molecular modeling" software, which is integrated into a number of courses. Ample opportunities exist for students to collaborate with professors on research projects.

  • Emphases include: graduate school preparation, life sciences, general chemistry
  • Those interested in further study can apply for the chemistry honours program
  • Teaching assistant and lab instructor positions open to students
