PAN Canadian Protocol

Granting undesignated credit for any duplicate transfer within the same institution:

  1. We will begin processing transfer credit evaluation this way for the Spring 2002 semester. Any past evaluations that are not assessed in this way will be changed by Enrolment Services upon the request of the student.
  2. This policy only applies for courses taken at the same institution (e.g. if a student has a course from both Kwantlen and Douglas that is transferable as ENGL 103 they will only receive credit for one of the two courses).
  3. We will apply this policy to all accredited colleges and universities.

Ontario Academic Credits (OACs)

Provisions are made for the validation of up to 12 semester hours of credit for applicants with a minimum average of 73 in six OACs, one of which must be English. A minimum grade of 70 is required in the OAC course that is to be validated. Students must enter TWU directly from an Ontario secondary school; transfer students cannot validate OAC credit.

  • Validation of up to 6 semester hours is achieved by taking one 200 level or higher course at TWU in the same subject area and achieving a minimum C- grade. Note: to validate OAC English, students must complete 6 semester hours of 200 level English.
  • Normally only courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences may be validated. Natural Science courses may not be validated.
  • In order to complete the process, students must complete an OAC Validation form available in Enrolment Services. Students should complete this form no later than at the end of their second year.
  • Other universities or professional bodies such as the BC College of Teachers may not recognize credit for AP courses.

Advanced Level (A Level) Courses

Students who complete a General Certificate of Education (GCE) may be eligible for 3 sem. hrs. of credit for each Advanced level course completed to a maximum of 12 sem. hrs. provided that a minimum grade of C is achieved in that course. Departments will determine if credit awarded is general or specific.
This policy became effective for students beginning their studies in the 1996 fall semester and is not retroactive.

Running Start Programs

High school students may participate in programs such as Running Start in Washington State in which students complete college level course work in lieu of or in conjunction with regular high school courses. In such cases, students are eligible to receive credit for all completed college courses. Students must submit official high school and college transcripts for admission. Such students will be considered first year students rather than transfer students.

What are the specific transfer credit limits?

You will be able to transfer upper level courses taken at other institutions subject to the following limits:

  1. All transfer students will be allowed to transfer into their TWU program a maximum of 9 sem. hrs. of upper level courses towards a major; a maximum of 6 sem. hrs. of upper level courses towards a concentration; a maximum of 3 sem. hrs. of upper level courses towards a minor.
  2. Courses outside of your major, concentration or minor:
    • No limit to the transferability of appropriate upper-level courses for elective credit, subject to the policies of (1) residency and (2) limits in major, concentration or minor fields.
    • Notwithstanding the above, no Trinity Western University baccalaureate degree can be earned in a major or general degree in minors that the university does not offer.
    • You may not declare a major, concentration or a minor in any field not offered as such by the university, e.g. engineering.
    • If you have transferred to Trinity Western University from other post-secondary institutions with at least 57 sem. hrs of transfer credit, you may be eligible for adjustment in the core requirements (see Grad Requirements in the Academic Calendar).

Do I qualify as a transfer student?

To gain admission, you must have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (C average) on all course work attempted.

If you have completed one semester of full-time studies (12 credits/hours or more) in a university transfer program, your admission will be based upon achievement in this post-secondary course work and previous college or high school work. If you have completed a minimum of 27 credits/hours of university or college course work, you may be admitted solely on the basis of your performance in that course work.
