Memberships

TWU has been a full member and active participant in the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) since 1984. Within the Canadian higher education context, membership in the AUCC is a standard of academic quality. Membership is determined by academic review and site visit. TWU also holds grants and awards agreements with the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and receives research funding from other national sources including the Canada Research Chairs Program and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The University maintains a memorandum of understanding with the BC Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. In addition, TWU earns annual quotas in the Canada Graduate Scholarship master and doctoral programs, with a stellar success rate. TWU degree programs are approved by the jurisdictions in which they are offered. In 2003, the British Columbia Degree Quality Assessment Board granted TWU a program approval fast-track status called exempt status, in recognition of consistent high-quality academic operations over more than 10 years of awarding baccalaureate and master degrees. TWU programs also are being offered with the consent of the Province of Ontario Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (TWU Laurentian Leadership Centre).
