Art + Design Exhibition: Arrivals/Departures
Guest Exhibition by Marguerite MacIntosh
Arrivals/Departures is a series of works that contemplates the transitory places and instances that are common aspects of the human condition. Marguerite's background as an architect informs an interest in the intangible certainty of plans and the way this intersects with the organic and, at times, random environments in which we find ourselves.
Marguerite's abstract paintings and drawings are most often rooted in landscapes that she has personally observed and passed through. Many of these works are a reflection on her changing role as a parent of adult children. The multi-layered painting and drawing process of these pieces reveals and obscures marks, brushstrokes, and colours as an epxression of her meditations on time, place, and family relationships. Each vertical yellow line is embedded as a reminder of the consequential and elusive moment of the present and the spiritual connection that can be found there.
Marguerite has recently moved to Summerland, BC, after having lived in Langley most of her life. She began her visual practice after retiring as an architect and has taken studio arts and cultural studies courses at Trinity Western University.
Opening reception and artist talk: October 11, 7pm
The SAMC Gallery exhibition program is an initiative of the Art + Design department, curated by Edith Krause.
