PUSHING THROUGH A BRICK WALL
Alumni Exhibition by Jenny Hawkinson

Jenny Hawkinson is a visual artist located in Vancouver. Growing up with a strong sense of identity in a family of story-tellers steered her in the direction of art making that connects to place. She works in video, textiles, sculpture, printmaking and installation. Hawkinson has recently made work in Belfast, and Israel/Palestine and is interested in borderlands and contested territories. Her artwork often crosses from the studio space into the public sphere; through street art, socially engaged art-making and collaboration. Through research and a versatile studio practice, she seeks to reduce socio-political situations to the human scale. Her artistic interventions use the interplay between politics and poetics to disrupt the status quo and encourage a new way of thinking.
