Internship/Practicum

Internship/practicum is integrated into the Geography and Environmental Studies programs (BA, BSc, Minor/Concentration). The purpose of this internship/practicum is to give students an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to a real-world work environment, and by so doing equip them with the necessary competencies that will enable them to gain an employment advantage.

Format/Set-up

This internship/practicum is a tripartite arrangement among (1) the student intern, (2) the agency or employer (i.e., a reputable government department, private agency, business, or non-governmental/ non-profit organization), and (3) the institution - Trinity Western University (represented by the internship coordinator/program coordinator/chair/course instructor). Our students are permitted to find their own organization/agency for their internship experience in consultation with the Co-Chairs or a faculty member of GENV.

The internship is similar to the first 120 hours (approximately) of a new employee probationary period. Following a site and job orientation, the student is expected to carry out typical duties and responsibilities with the same standard of deportment as a newly hired individual. Details of the internship expectations are provided in the internship agreement form.
