Local Outreach

Local Outreach

The vision of Local Outreach is to develop spiritually mature disciples of Jesus Christ who are fully devoted to God, who cultivate and model Christlike character, and who selflessly love and influence others in the community. The program is modelled after Christ’s ministry of hope and the historical efforts of the church to do the same.

In the Gospel narratives, Christ consistently comes to those trapped in deep suffering. We see in passages like Matthew 25: 31-46, James 1: 27, Zachariah 7:9 and many others that God has a particular concern for the widow, orphan, refugee, incarcerated; those suffering from hunger, poverty, homelessness, abuse, and others who are experiencing the most painful circumstances of life. We see him consistently call his followers to the radical and selfless love of these individuals.

The Lower Mainland has numerous service organizations that the TWU community can partner with and support. Students who participate in Local Outreach volunteer opportunities will learn, experience, and develop a heart to serve the vulnerable population in our community in practical ways.

Volunteer opportunities include senior care, child and youth ministries, urban ministry, and refugee care.
