Welcome to Trinity Western Parent Engagement
The Parent Engagement Team is here to serve PARENTS as they navigate this university journey with their students. PARENTS are an integral part of the Trinity Western story and we want PARENTS to treasure TWU because of the impact the university has had on their students, but especially because of the impact it has had on their own lives. We want to connect PARENTS with great resources, prayer groups, and events, so that you will be able to say with confidence, "We Love This Place!"

Meet our Parent Engagement Team
Shirley Thiessen (Regional Director, AB)
Tel: 604-513-2121 ext. 3985 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Shirley and her husband, Carey, of 30 years are TWU parents to alum Jordan ('12), his wife Elise ('12 ) and daughter Chantel ('14). Shirley works from the Calgary office. She has been with Trinity Western for six years as a Development Officer and has leaned into a parent-focused role as Director of Parent Engagement. "Our family loves TWU!" Shirley is quick to proclaim, "As a parent, I am so grateful for the leadership opportunities my son and daughter have been encouraged to engage in. Each step has been formative as they learn to serve even when it is uncomfortable at first. It has proven to grow their competency and given them confidence to believe they still have untapped, God-given potential to explore."
Janice Nikkel (Engagement Associate, Parent & Friends)
Tel: 604-513-2121 ext: 3319 Email: email@example.com
Janice ('92 & 'MA '08) and her husband Peter ('92) met as history majors at Trinity Western. Their four kids, Tori, Lincoln, Virginia & Lewis, have grown up hearing mom & dad speak fondly about their time at TWU. Tori is a sophomore at TWU and Lincoln has launched into his first year of his TWU journey. Trinity Western has indeed played a significant role in both of Peter & Janice's families. Janice was one of four sisters who attended TWU from Ontario. And on Peter's side, his Grandpa Jim Westman, was one of the visionary men who walked the grounds of TWU over 50 years ago to pray for and determine if this was the land God had prepared for Trinity Western. Janice is thrilled to be on the parent team and looks forward to meeting with parents at prayer groups, events on and off campus, and lovin' on their students.
Crystal Fontaine (Regional Manager, ON)
Tel: 647-308-5581 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Crystal Fontaine joined the Parent Engagement Team in March 2013. She lives in Toronto with her husband Ed. They have three sons; the eldest graduated in Business from TWU in Spring '14. The youngest is attending TWU in his 1st year in Business. Her middle son attends a University in the states and will graduated this coming spring. Crystal desires to engage with parents in the Ontario, Manitoba & eastern regions through prayer, events and mutual encouragement as they support their TWU students on their university journey. She has seen the impact Trinity Western has had on her son's life, watching him grow spiritually, academically, and personally in his leadership gifts over the past few years as a student. Crystal's background is dental nursing, but her passion is working with parents. She has a passion for prayer and watching God move and change lives. She quotes “We become broken in God's presence and it is in our brokenness that God does his greatest work.”
Joshua Marshall (Stewardship Director, BC)
Tel: 604-513-2121 ext. 3356 Email: email@example.com
Joshua attend Trinity Western from 2002-2004 and played for the men’s Spartan soccer team. He comes from an early history of TWU supporters – his grandparents helped tear down barns in the early years and worked in the mail room for years. Joshua returns to the University with great excitement and to build momentum around encouraging students, alumni and parents to steward the school into the “New Era.” As you walk through this phase of your child or children’s’ lives, Joshua looks forward to connecting your love for this place with opportunities to build TWU for generations to come. He will begin his MA Leadership in Fall 2016 and anticipates studying the Not-For-Profit stream. Outside of work you will usually see Joshua training for Ironman Triathlons or enjoying the mountains and ocean.
