BC’s Minister of Advanced Education visits TWU

On November 26, 2012, Trinity Western University was pleased to welcome the Honourable John Yap, Minister of Advanced Education, Innovation and Technology and Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism; Marc Dalton, MLA Maple-Ridge – Mission; and Tony Loughran, Regional Executive Director Fraser Valley/Interior Region, Post-Secondary Regions, Programs and Multiculturalism. This was Minister Yap’s first visit to TWU’s Langley campus.

Greeted by TWU MBA students, Yap toured the campus and met with TWU student leaders, including a student representative from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Topics of interest advanced by student leaders included scholarships, financial aid, and Translink’s U-Pass BC transit program, currently available only to students of public post-secondary institutions.

“It is exciting to meet with dedicated staff, faculty and students to learn about the latest developments at TWU, including the launch of the Richmond campus in 2014,” said Yap. “TWU’s emphasis on excellence and innovative programming are impressive and something to be celebrated.”

Yap also acknowledged the University’s 50th anniversary, saying, “Thank you for serving students in BC for the past 50 years. Independent post-secondary institutions such as TWU provide additional opportunities for students in British Columbia to pursue world-class advanced education.”

TWU President Jonathan S. Raymond shared with Yap TWU’s focus on developing people of high competence and exemplary character who distinguish themselves as exceptional leaders in the marketplaces of life. “TWU shares with the Province a commitment to building a strong post-secondary education system that is responsive to changing market opportunities, to global engagement, and to the demand for quality,” Raymond said.
