Fostering a vibrant research culture: TWU launches Fall 2021 Lunch and Learn Series

TWU Lunch and Learn is an informal opportunity for learning and development. This series provides participants the useful, practical, and timely exposure to a variety of topics related to research. It is open to the public.

Since the Summer of 2016, TWU has hosted a series of Lunch and Learn events to enrich the campus community, and the community beyond.

Through this gathering, various researchers—including student researchers, guests, and faculty—cultivate a research community that fosters a vibrant research culture at Trinity Western.

These workshops are open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to bring their lunch and learn about topics relevant to research.

The Fall 2021 Lunch and Learn features distinguished speakers

The Fall 2021 Lunch and Learn features nine scheduled talks and a panel of distinguished speakers, including two members of the Royal Society of Canada.

Speakers come from very diverse areas: nursing, artificial intelligence, bioenergy, art, education, mathematics, poetry, environmental engineering, and more.

The Fall 2021 series’ speakers are also broadly representatively, with 44% women and 67% visible minorities.

On September 23, Dr. Richard Chandra, Associate Provost Research, kicked off the Fall 2021 series by presenting on his research into developing novel methods that use microbial enzymes and benign chemicals to economically convert forest and agricultural wastes to fuels and nanomaterials. His presentation was titled, "The fate of lignin after converting renewable biomass to bioenergy: what is the value proposition?"

Join us for the next Lunch and Learn on October 7, as Dr. Sheryl Reimer-Kirkham, Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing, presents on "Health Research on Prayer in Hospitals – Insights on Methods and Interpretations".
