Trinity Western University’s international student enrolment in graduate studies doubled since this time last year (not including the US). Overall graduate enrolment is up 17% this year.
The University has been building on its global connections with the focus of attracting international students. This fall, TWU saw 16 students enrol in its inaugural program for international students called University Transition First Year (UT1). The innovative program is designed to walk international students through the first, often challenging year of university courses.
“In 2011, TWU completed a two-year task force project on expanded international education opportunities,” said Associate Provost, Philip Laird, Ph.D. “As a result of the task force’s suggestions, TWU has developed pathways for international student to complete a TWU degree.”
Recently, TWU participated in initiatives to advance its relationships with Chinese universities. Last October, the Spartans men’s basketball team prepared for their U Sports season by playing against several university teams in China. In November 2011, a delegation from TWU joined the BC Premier on a trade mission to China where President Jonathan S. Raymond, Ph.D., signed agreements (MOUs) with four top quality Chinese universities.
In addition to international programs, TWU launched its Adult Degree Completion programs in Langley and Richmond. They were previously only offered at TWU’s Bellingham, Washington campus. New undergraduate student enrolment increased over six percent, led by strong gains in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and the expansion of its track and field teams.
Since fall 2011, the number of classes taken by all students has grown 2.9%, contributing to the overall health of the University.
