SAMC Theatre’s 2015-16 season offers lots of “heart”

There’s a lot of heart in SAMC Theatre’s 2015-16 season, which runs the gamut from heart-wrenching drama to light-hearted comedy. The season kicks off with The Diary of Anne Frank, a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and a testament to the human spirit, then offers a trio of Advent plays that explore meaningful human encounters with the Light of the World.

Spring offerings include New Generations, a popular student-run festival that offers short back-to-back plays each night, as well as Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy Twelfth Night.

For the first time ever, SAMC Theatre is offering season passes. Available until October 5, the passes make theatre-going more convenient and affordable than ever, with special perks like VIP seating. For more information, email theatre@twu.ca or visit twu.ca/theatre.

2015-16 Season at a glance:

The Diary of Anne Frank
is the inspiring, true story of a Jewish family in hiding during the Second World War. As they find their world reduced to whispers in a cramped loft, the imaginative and sprightly Anne is a beacon of hope in a dark time. Directed by Angela Konrad, this production offers school matinees with special group rates. To book tickets for your student group, email theatre@twu.ca.
The Diary of Anne Frank
runs October 27 – November 7, 2015

The Trinity Advent Plays are a trio of short dramas written and directed by Abbotsford’s Lloyd Arnett, Ph.D., long-time professor at SAMC Theatre. From a blind woman’s search for truth to the excitement of a reported angel sighting, these Christmas stories follow meaningful human encounters with the Light of the World.

This show will tour Fraser Valley churches in November and December. To book one of the dramas as a sermon replacement or to program an evening of entertainment featuring all three, please email kate.muchmore@twu.ca.

One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, Twelfth Night brings together a handsome duke, a damsel-in-disguise, and the diva who falls for her – thinking she’s a man. Littered with love triangles, clumsy duels, mischievous pranks, and mistaken identities, this witty classic shows that “the road to true love never did run smooth.” Directed by Kate Muchmore.
