Trinity Western 2022 Citizenship Awards recognize students who made a significant positive impact on the community

Winners are selected through a vote by students, staff and faculty

Congratulations to the 2022 TWU Citizenship Award winners, Emma Driedger and Sean Hui, who were recognized at the April 29 Baccalaureate Service.

During the Baccalaureate Service held on April 29 at the Langley campus’ David E. Enarson Gymnasium, graduands and their families gathered for a reflective time of worship, prayer and student testimonials.

Several student leaders took turns reading Scipture to the community, and the Trinity Worship Collective led worship. Graduands Yen-Ping (Kiki) Liao, Spencer Gerth and Hyeon Jeong (Bella) Choi each shared about their spiritual journeys during their time at TWU, while graduands Janaya Hall and Sean Hui shared a prayer on behalf of the graduating class.

TWU 2022 Citizenship Awards

Two Citizenship Awards were also presented at the Baccalaureate Service. TWU Citizenship Award recipients are selected through a vote by their peers, as well as by staff and faculty.

“Since 1980, Trinity Western has presented the Citizenship Award annually at graduation to a female and male graduate who have exemplified servant leadership and made a significant impact on the Trinity Western community,” VP of Student Life Richard Taylor announced last Friday. “Recipients are standout students who embody the vision of TWU to ‘equip every graduate to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the world and the glory of God.’”

Emma Driedger, an inspirational mentor and leader

The first 2022 Citizenship Award recipient is Emma Driedger, a graduate of the School of Education. During her time at TWU, Emma served as a resident assistant, a community facilitator, a summer activity coordinator with TWU Recreation, and a volunteer fitness instructor. She also led a women’s ministry on campus called The River.

Associate Chaplain Jennifer Graves commented of Emma, “She believes that empowering women is important—this vision and passion has guided her expressions of women's ministry this year and her deep care and support of women throughout her time at Trinity as she has mentored and inspired many through her vision and enthusiasm.”

“From worship nights led by a team of strong female leaders on campus, to hosting women-specific conversations led by prominent Christian women in our community, Emma has collaborated this year with female leaders across departments to inspire and unify the women of TWU.”

Sean Hui, humble and gentle, an amazing listener who deeply loves Jesus

The second 2022 Citizenship Award goes to a fellow graduate of the School of Education, Sean Hui. Sean served in many student leadership roles during his time at TWU, including being a peer instructor, a resident assistant, and a men’s mentorship coordinator. He is known by TWU staff and students to be humble and gentle, an amazing listener, and someone who deeply loves Jesus.

Associate Director of Community Life Andrew DeGroot commented of Sean, “He values people and always makes space in his day to stop and talk with those he passes around campus. He is slow to speak and quick to listen. He cares deeply for the spiritual lives of those on campus, as evidenced in his desire to serve in his role as a resident assistant. He was an example of what it means to take time to get to know the individuals in his dorm.”

“He cared for each person and always strived to make them feel included. He radiates joy and is always a soft and safe space for people to confide in.”

On behalf of Trinity Western University, a warm congratulations to the 2022 Citizenship Award winners, Emma Driedger and Sean Hui!
