TWU’s Jacobson Hall Wins Yet Another Award for Excellence

In the summer of 2018, Jacobson Hall was built: a new and unique endeavour for Trinity Western University. Groundbreaking in its industry, Jacobson Hall is built using permanent modular construction - an achievement in its own right - and is the first ever five storey, wood framed modular building in Canada.

As a short duration project, the construction of Jacobson Hall moved quickly. Built entirely in the summer, from March 27th to August 31st, this ninety-module building was created in only five months and four days - from the first day of excavation, to the day of occupancy.

The result of creative collaboration between student voices and the project manager, Jacobson Hall features spacious, open common areas, fully equipped small group study areas, and comfortable units for students. Efficient and noise controlled, it is - and will continue to be - an integral part of our University space.

Jacobson Hall received the honour of multiple awards for its innovation and excellence. Metric Modular, one of North America’s largest and most innovative modular construction companies, was awarded the Gold Award of Excellence for the Up to $15 Million category for their work on Jacobson Hall, as well as both first place in the Permanent Dormitory category and an Honorable Mention in the Marketing category from the Modular Building Institute. Jacobson Hall also received two award nominations through the Canadian Wood Council at the 2019 Wood Design Awards: the Multi-Unit Residential Wood Design category and the Pre-fabricated Structural Wood category.

After three years of consecutive enrollment and growth, Jacobson Hall is a glowing reflection of the success experienced by Trinity Western University. With 220 new beds, this new building is a symbol of the growing number of students that fill our campus each year, as we continue to grow, expand, and thrive as an institution of higher learning. It is creative, innovative, and sets a new standard for what’s possible in the world of higher education.

For both Metric Modular and TWU, but even more so for the students who get to call it home, Jacobson Hall gives us cause to celebrate.
