Trinity Western University Provost W. Robert Wood, Ph.D., is pleased to announce that, after a thorough search process, long-time faculty member Kevin Sawatsky, JD, MBA, has been named Dean of the School of Business. Sawatsky will commence a five-year term effective August 16, 2014.
The role is a familiar one for Sawatsky, who served as the School’s founding Dean from 2001 to 2008. A TWU faculty member since 1993, he most recently served as Vice Provost (Business), a role he has held since 2011. “Kevin has been a valued member of the Office of the Provost,” said Wood. “His leadership there will be missed.”
Kevin Sawatsky has also been one of the principle champions for the establishment of a School of Law at Trinity Western. “Kevin remains committed to the success of the School of Law and will continue to assist in its development,” said Wood. As University Legal Counsel, he will also continue to provide counsel on a limited part-time basis.
“For 21 years, the School of Business, [formerly Faculty of Business & Economics] has been my professional home,” said Sawatsky. “Over those years, I have developed a love for the School of Business and have a deep desire to see it grow and flourish.”
Known for its outstanding programs, the School of Business was the University’s first professional School. In addition to its BBA and BBA Honours programs—which feature specializations in accounting, finance, marketing, human resource management, international business, and leadership and management—the school offers a BA program, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, and an International MBA in Tianjin, China.
Current School of Business Dean Andrea Soberg, MIR, CHRP, has served as Dean since 2008, and will continue in her role until August. She will remain a faculty member of the School. “I appreciate Andrea’s leadership as Dean for the past six years,” Sawatsky said. “I believe that the School of Business is now well positioned to expand and grow. I’m happy to be able to serve another term as Dean and to work with faculty, alumni, and business leaders to see that growth occur.”
