TWU to award Bob Kuhn with honourary doctorate

The Trinity Western University Board of Governors and President Jonathan S. Raymond, Ph.D., are pleased to announce that prominent lawyer and TWU alumnus Bob Kuhn will be presented with an honourary doctorate at this year’s graduate ceremony, to be held November 3 at the Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly.

Kuhn began his studies at TWU (then Trinity Western College), graduating with an A.A. in 1972. He went on to acquire a B.A. and an LL.B. at the University of British Columbia by 1979. For 28 years, he served as Insight for Living’s Chairman of the Board and, as a member or Chairman, has served on the boards of numerous other charities, including the Arrow Leadership Ministries, English Language Institute of China, Hope Adoption Services, and Regent College Senate.

In 2001, Kuhn appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada as lead counsel for Trinity Western University, resulting in the successful challenge of decisions made by the BC College of Teachers. More recently, he provided valuable legal assistance to the University when the Canadian Association of University Teachers challenged TWU’s reputation as a place of academic freedom.

Having also served as the Chair of the School of Business Leadership Advisory Council for 10 years, spoken at many TWU events, and helped create the Alumni Association, Kuhn continues to commit himself as a valuable and dedicated leader at TWU.

“Bob Kuhn is a wonderful example of what Trinity Western University is all about,” said President Raymond, “He is a person of the highest integrity and Christian character, a godly leader devoted to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Since graduating almost 40 years ago, his faithful service has deeply impacted the Christian community, the broader community, and Trinity Western University.”

Despite his struggle with Parkinson’s disease in past years, Kuhn remains partner at Kuhn LLP and continues to devote much of his time to charity work, including serving as Chairman or director of numerous non-profit entities, like Insight for Living Canada and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities.
