TWU meets with national and global scholars at bi-monthly Nursing Philosophy Cafés

During the past year, the TWU School of Nursing hosted bi-monthly, two-hour Nursing Philosophy Cafés. At these events, TWU nursing faculty joined a selection of national and global scholars to address the question: “How is nursing philosophy informing your scholarship?”

"The primary purpose for these Philosophy Cafés is to have nursing faculty think philosophically about their teaching and practice," said Dr. Sheryl Reimer-Kirkham Professor and Dean of School of Nursing.

Topics have inlucded, "How prayer can support nurses and patients during this time of pandemic," and "Setting a different tone: A conversation about our vulnerabilities during COVID-19".

Guest scholars to date have included: Dr. Barb Pesut, UBC-O (Canada); Dr. Marsha Fowler, Azusa Pacific University (USA); Dr. Patricia Benner (USA); Dr. Mark Risjord, Emory University (USA); Dr. Joakim Öhlén, University of Gothenburg (Sweden); Dr. Elvis Imafidon, School of History, Religions and Philosophies, University of London (England) and Ambrose Alli University (Nigeria); Dr. Elizabeth Peter U of T (Canada); Dr. Joan Liaschenko, University of Minnesota (USA); and Dr. Sally Thorne UBC (Canada).
