David Charles Loewen, PhD

Part-time Instructor of Leadership

Dr. David Loewen has served as an elementary and secondary teacher and has been an administrator in a PreK-5, Prek-7 and a Prek-12 school.  He currently serves as the Superintendent of Surrey Christian School.  Dave also serves as an Inspection Chair for the BC Ministry of Education’s Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools as well as the Offshore School Program. Dave enjoys the opportunity to teach in the graduate program at Trinity Western as it combines his interests in academic engagement, executive school management, and developing leadership capacity.
Dave’s research interests focus on applying the work of Juergen Habermas’ Communicative Action Theory to creating school cultures in which staff, students and families flourish. He has a particular interest in ensuring the skills of executive management serve the overall vision human flourishing that leaders are called to facilitate with passion, energy and a high ethic of human care.

Dave has presented at national and local conferences in the U.S. Canada and Korea.  Locally he is involved in his church, serves on the board of Directors of the Federation of Independent Schools of BC, and participates in and coaches a Rock Climbing team. He is married with three children and 2 chickens.
