Laura Hitchman, MA, CCC (pending)

Clinical Counsellor

I have a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, and additional specialty training including level one of Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI). I often work with presenting concerns such as depression, anxiety and distress around body image. As a trusting relationship forms between myself and the client, together we address areas of trauma, grief, relationship issues, family dynamics, shame, identity, and meaning in a way that feels safe.

I practice from a person-centered approach and work to create an environment that is non-judgmental and confidential with the intention that clients feel seen, heard and cared for. I work to collaborate with each person to create a plan that is unique to who they are and their situation. Much of my work is informed by the Internal Family Systems Model (IFS), which does not pathologize how an individual is behaving or feeling, but helps individuals find grace, understanding, and a new appreciation for different parts of themselves. It is my intention that this will help clients experience meaningful connections, as well as physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. I operate in a way that is trauma informed.

When I am not counselling I can be seen cycling around the Vancouver seawall, or cheering for my favorite Formula 1 team on race day.
