Shawna Medley, M.Ed., RCC

Director; Mental Health Services

I’m the Director of Mental Health Services and have worked at TWU for 17 years.  Most of my day-to-day work now involves directing the Wellness Centre, but I still love to counsel – particularly for premarital couples and for those suffering emotionally.  I have a passion for learning and have been trained in numerous theoretical orientations.  My most recent training, and the one I now use primarily to help clients through the process of healing and healthy relating, is in Internal Family systems (IFS).  I use IFS to help restore body, soul and mind – removing barriers that may be preventing clients from experiencing calmness, curiosity, compassion and confidence.  I am married to a man of color, and we have 3 adult children - one adopted from Haiti, the other two are birth children – and 2 beautiful young grandchildren.  The world is a big, wonderous space and I want to see it all!  When I’m not working or travelling, I’m hiking with our 2 active dogs and apologizing for their behavior, chasing grandbabies and making excuses for their behavior, and laughing with friends or reading to cope with the above chaos!  My goal this year is to slow down more often to hear God’s heart.
