My academic background includes a Master of Arts (Planning) at the School of Community and Regional Planning UBC with an emphasis in transportation and housing and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Geography and a minor in Economics (TWU).

As a member of the Planning Institute of BC and The Canadian Institute of Planners, Stuart has over 25 years of planning related experience.  He is currently employed as a senior planner at the City of Surrey where he is involved in long range community planning policy services and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  He is also an instructor at Langara’s ‘Applied Planning’ program where he teaches “Planning Applications in GIS’, ‘Intro to Planning Methods’, ‘Urban and Rural Planning’, ‘Advanced Planning Methods’, and 3D Computer Applications in Planning’. His previous employment experience includes Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as a market analyst, City of Vancouver Policy Planning, City of New Westminster Planning, and City of Richmond Policy Planning.

Over the past 25 years Stuart has worked with new methods of integration of databases along with other research methods and techniques that include GIS.  The use of this GIS technology has played a key role in long range planning, community, land use, social, housing, environmental planning, community safety, health and other research.  His current interests include the use of GIS technology and long-range forecasting (i.e. population and employment) and the development of new growth models.
