About Streetlight: Our Streetlight volunteers partner with Union Gospel Mission to serve the homeless community on the Downtown East Side of Vancouver. UGM, located in the heart of one of the highest concentrations of homelessness in Canada, runs an incredible variety of services and programs for the residents of the DTES, providing community meals, addictions support, short-term and long-term housing, mental illness support, women’s services, and a host of other services. They’re well-known and loved by the locals.

Often, what people on the street want most, more than a meal or a jacket or pair of socks, is simply a conversation with someone who cares. Our students head down to UGM every Friday night to do just that, walking around the area to talk with the residents, pray over them, as well as heading into a community home for the mentally disabled, and a shelter for battered and abused women to help build Christ-like community for the residents there. Every week, students have incredible stories of being able to speak truth and hope over the people they meet, and so often having those they meet do the same for them. Streetlight offers an incredible opportunity to embody and proclaim the goodness and hope of the Gospel over people trapped in extreme darkness.
