ADMISSION AND APPLICATION
A bachelor’s degree is typically required for entry into the MATESOL program, although exceptions can be made in extraordinary circumstances. Teaching experience (usually one to two years minimum) and completion of typical pre-requisites for graduate MATESOL courses are important. Other factors which may enhance a candidate’s application include overseas teaching experience, additional languages studied, and a clear statement of purpose for entering the program.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Significant teaching experience in an ESL / EFL classroom or tutoring experience — paid or volunteer
- Pre-requisites for TESOL graduate courses: This could be a TESOL / TESL Certificate that includes courses in TESOL Methodology, Phonetics, Language & Culture, and Grammar, or undergraduate courses in Linguistics or Education.
- IELTS score of 7.5 on all bands, an iBT score of 105, or a DuoLingo score of 125 – or demonstrated equivalent, which may involve English language teaching experience or satisfactory completion of the Pre-Masters program on the TWU campus
- Two references – one academic, one professional

Applications are accepted up to two months prior to the start of program online orientation. International applicants intending to participate in the resident track of the program are advised to apply at least six months prior to the start of online orientation to allow time for processing of study visas.
