As with many of Shakespeare’s comedies, the wittier the banter, the greater the mirth. Although in no way explicit in nature, the play does contain a cheeky reference or two about a couple of its female characters (which, if you remember, would have been played in Shakespeare’s time by men). We see the grittier side of Ephesus, where the action takes place. And while the play also humourizes the challenges of marriage, it ultimately shows what amazing things can happen when the bond of family runs deep.
